Corporate tennis and team days in Birmingham

Practical formats for team days, wellbeing sessions and client events, and what a day on court looks like.

Quick answer

Corporate tennis in Birmingham and Solihull can be a short team taster session, a half or full team day with coaching and a doubles competition, a weekly wellbeing-on-court series, or executive one-to-one coaching. No experience is needed, as sessions are designed for mixed abilities. Venues range from free Solihull park courts to clubs, and pricing is by quote.

If you're organising a team day, a wellbeing initiative or a client event for a Birmingham or Solihull workplace, tennis is worth a look. It's active without being punishing, people of very different abilities can play together, and doubles is naturally sociable. This guide covers the practical side: the formats that work, what a day actually looks like, and how to plan one.

Why choose tennis for a team activity?

  • Mixed abilities work: with the right games, complete beginners and regular players can share a court and all enjoy it.
  • It's social: doubles means people are talking, encouraging and strategising together, not just running.
  • It's moderate exercise: the NHS lists doubles tennis as a moderate intensity activity, and recommends adults aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate activity a week.
  • It's outdoors: a change from the office or meeting room, with plenty of local courts across Solihull and Birmingham.
  • It can be a one-off or a habit: a single team day, or a weekly session that becomes part of the working week.

Which corporate tennis formats are available?

These are the corporate options I offer. Each is priced to the group and venue, so ask for a quote.

What does a corporate tennis day look like?

Every group is different, but a typical half day might run like this:

  1. Welcome and warm-up: a quick briefing, a light movement warm-up and some fun coordination games to break the ice.
  2. Coaching block: the basics of forehand, backhand and serve, pitched so beginners feel comfortable and experienced players still get something useful.
  3. Team games: short, scored games and challenges that mix abilities and get people working together.
  4. Break: water, a breather and a chance to chat.
  5. Doubles competition: mixed teams play short matches, with simple scoring so everyone can follow.
  6. Finals and wrap-up: a final, a few words and time for the group to head on to food or drinks if you've planned them.

A full day extends this with more coaching and a longer tournament, and can be split with a lunch break. A taster session takes the most enjoyable parts and condenses them for a lunchtime or after-work slot.

Do people need any experience?

No. Sessions are planned around the group, and most teams include a mix of complete beginners, people who played years ago and a few regulars. Using simple formats, mixed teams and, where useful, slower balls helps everyone get involved and keep rallies going.

All people need is comfortable sports clothes, trainers with a flat sole, and water. Rackets and balls can be arranged, so check what's included when you get your quote.

How does a weekly wellbeing-on-court series work?

A weekly series is a regular coached session for the same group at the same time each week, such as before work, at lunchtime or straight after work. Because people come back week after week, the coaching can build: early sessions focus on the basics and rallying, and later ones bring in serving, doubles tactics and friendly matches.

It suits workplaces that want something ongoing rather than a one-off event, and it gives staff a fixed, sociable reason to get outside and move during the working week.

Where can a corporate tennis day take place?

The right venue depends on group size, budget and what else you've got planned. Options locally include:

  • Public park courts: Solihull Council's park courts are free to book online, and Birmingham's park courts are pay and play at £7 an hour. These suit smaller groups and taster sessions.
  • Clubs and private venues: for bigger groups, or if you want facilities such as a clubhouse, a club or private venue may suit better. Availability and terms are set by each venue.

I'll talk through venue options with you when you get in touch. For a full list of public courts and clubs, see where to play tennis in Solihull and Moseley.

How do you plan a corporate tennis event?

A short checklist makes the planning simple:

  • How many people, and roughly what mix of abilities?
  • What's the goal: team building, wellbeing, a reward, client hospitality?
  • Preferred date, time and length (taster, half day, full day or weekly)?
  • Location: near the office, or somewhere central for everyone?
  • A wet weather plan, or a backup date.
  • Any accessibility needs or injuries to know about.
  • What happens before or after: lunch, drinks, a meeting?

Questions people ask

How many people can take part in a corporate tennis session?

It depends on the format, the venue and how many courts are available. Smaller groups suit a taster on park courts, while larger teams may need more courts or a club venue. Share your numbers when you ask for a quote and the session can be planned around them.

What happens if it rains on the day?

Light drizzle is often playable, but heavy rain makes outdoor courts unsafe. It's sensible to agree a backup date or a wet weather plan when booking. Indoor courts exist locally, such as Billesley Tennis and Fitness Centre, though availability and pricing are set by the venue.

Can we run tennis as a regular staff wellbeing activity?

Yes. A weekly wellbeing-on-court series gives staff a regular, coached session at a set time, such as before work, at lunchtime or after work. It's a good way to build a habit and give people something to look forward to during the week.
