Personal training
How much does a personal trainer cost in Solihull in 2026?
Typical UK price ranges, how the main options compare and exactly what personal training costs with Max in Solihull.
Quick answer
Published UK guides suggest a one-to-one personal training session typically costs around £30 to £60 outside London, with Birmingham listed at roughly £20 to £60 per hour. In Solihull, Max Brazier charges £45 per session, £30 for your first, £40 to £42 a session in packs, and £55 for couples, with no contracts.
Price is usually the first question people ask about personal training, and it is a fair one. The trouble is that there is no official price list, and figures online vary wildly. This guide pulls together what published UK price guides say, explains what drives the cost up or down, and sets out exactly what I charge in Solihull so you can compare like for like.
What do personal trainers typically charge in the UK?
There is no authoritative national survey of PT prices, so the honest answer is a range. Several recent UK guides land in a similar place:
- OriGym (updated April 2026) puts a one-hour session at roughly £30 to £70, with most people paying around £30 to £55.
- Edge's 2026 guide says around £30 to £60 or more for a single one-to-one session, with London and premium studios higher.
- Airtasker's 2025 price guide lists Birmingham at around £20 to £60 per hour, against £40 to £90 in London.
- Insure4Sport (May 2025) quotes a UK average of £30 to £50 per hour, with some trainers outside London charging less and top London sessions far more.
Taken together, a typical one-to-one session in the West Midlands is likely to fall somewhere between about £30 and £60. Anything well below that range is worth asking questions about, and anything well above it should come with a clear reason.
How do the different options compare on price?
Personal training is not one product. Where you train, how many people share the session and whether the coaching is live or remote all change the cost. Here is how the main options compare, using the typical ranges from the guides above alongside my own prices.
| Option | Typical UK range | Max's price | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gym-based one-to-one PT | About £30 to £65 per hour (Airtasker) | Get in touch to talk through gym options | People who already have a gym membership and want access to machines and heavy weights |
| Mobile one-to-one PT (home or park) | About £30 to £60 per session; trainers who travel to you can cost a little more | £45 per session, £30 for your first | Busy people, anyone who prefers to avoid gyms, parents who need to stay at home |
| Block or package of sessions | Usually a little cheaper per session than pay as you go | 5 for £210 (£42 each); 10 for £400 (£40 each, with a written programme) | Anyone committing to regular training for a few weeks or more |
| Small group or couples PT | About £20 to £30 per person per session (Airtasker) | £55 for two, plus £10 per extra person, up to 4 | Couples, friends or family who want to share the cost |
| Online coaching | From around £20 a month for remote plans (Airtasker) | Not offered as a standalone service | Confident, self-motivated exercisers who do not need technique coaching in person |
Online coaching is the cheapest route, but you lose the live feedback on technique that matters most when you are starting out. Small group sessions bring the per-person cost down a lot, at the price of slightly less individual attention.
How much does Max charge for personal training in Solihull?
My prices are designed to be simple and flexible:
- First session: £30, as a new starter offer
- Pay as you go: £45 per 60-minute session
- 5-session pack: £210, which works out at £42 a session (use within 6 weeks)
- 10-session pack: £400, which works out at £40 a session and includes a written programme for the days in between
- Couples and small groups: £55 per session for two people, plus £10 for each extra person (2 to 4 people)
There are no contracts and no joining fee. I ask for 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or rearrange. For home and park sessions I bring all the kit: kettlebells, adjustable dumbbells, resistance bands, boxing gloves and pads, a suspension trainer, mats and cones.
What does personal training cost per month?
Monthly cost depends on how often you train. Using my prices and assuming four weeks in a month:
| Frequency | Pay as you go | Using the 10-session pack |
|---|---|---|
| Once a week (4 sessions) | £180 | £160 |
| Twice a week (8 sessions) | £360 | £320 |
| Once a week as a couple (4 sessions) | £220 for two (£110 each) | Not applicable |
For context, OriGym's guide puts monthly PT spending in the UK at roughly £150 to £500 or more, depending on frequency and the trainer.
Small groups work out cheaper per head. A session for three costs £65 (about £21.67 each) and a session for four costs £75 (£18.75 each).
What affects the price of a personal trainer?
- Location. London and big-city premium studios charge the most. Guides consistently show regional prices below London.
- Setting. Gym trainers may pay rent or fees to the gym. Mobile trainers have travel time and carry their own equipment.
- Session length. 30-minute sessions cost less per session but usually more per minute.
- Commitment. Packages and blocks normally reduce the per-session price.
- Group size. Sharing a session with one to three others cuts the cost per person.
- What is included. Programmes for the days in between, check-ins and progress reviews add value beyond the hour itself.
Which costs should you check before booking any PT?
Whoever you choose, ask these questions so there are no surprises:
- Is there a joining fee or a minimum contract?
- Do packages expire, and if so, when?
- What is the cancellation policy, and do late cancellations count as a used session?
- Do you need your own gym membership as well?
- Is there an extra charge for travel or equipment?
- Do you get anything to follow between sessions?
How can you make personal training more affordable?
You do not have to train with a PT three times a week to get the benefit. A common approach is one coached session a week, with one or two sessions on your own using a plan you have been taught. Our no-gym home workout plan is a good place to start for those extra sessions.
Training with a partner or friend is the other big saving. Two people sharing a £55 session pay £27.50 each, which is less than most one-to-one sessions. Read is couples PT worth it? to see whether it would suit you.

Questions people ask
Is a cheaper personal trainer a false economy?
Not necessarily, but check the basics. A lower price is fine if the trainer is Level 3 qualified, asks about your health and goals, and coaches technique properly. Be wary of very low prices paired with long contracts, or packages that expire quickly.
Do I pay for the first chat?
No. With Max, the 15-minute chat about your goals, injuries, schedule and where to train is free. If you then decide to try a session, the first one is £30 as a new starter offer.
How long does the 5-session pack last?
The 5-session pack costs £210 and needs to be used within 6 weeks, which suits training roughly once a week. If you plan to train more regularly or for longer, the 10-session pack works out cheaper at £40 a session.
Can I split a couples session with a friend instead of a partner?
Yes. Couples and small group sessions are for any 2 to 4 people who want to train together, whether that is a partner, a friend, a parent or a colleague. The price is £55 for two, plus £10 per extra person.
